Frequently Asked Questions
1. How old does each participant have to be to play?
We have numerous age groups set up for anyone 17 years old and under
2. What equipment does each participant need to play?
The LMBHA requires all participants to wear a CSA approved helmet with a full cage/shield, hockey style gloves, shin pads, athletic support and an ice hockey stick. Click here for more details.
3. What days of the week and time are the games played?
The games will predominately be played on Saturday and Sunday with a few weekday games sprinkled throughout (we aim for after school is finished for the year).
While we cannot guarantee exact start times until the schedule is made, this is what we will be aiming for:
Squirt Division: Start times of around 9 AM
Tyke Division: Mid to late morning
Novice Division: Late morning to early afternoon
Atom Division: Early afternoon
Peewee Division: Mid to late afternoon
Super Division (inclusive of Bantam and Junior): Mid to late afternoon
Any games that will be played during the week will start early evening (around 6 PM) with the latest start time being around 8 PM. Like the weekend games, if multiple divisions are playing on the same evening, it will go from youngest (starting earlier) to oldest (starting later).
Please note that this is just an estimate of start times and we will try our best to stick to these times however we cannot set it in stone until after registration has been completed, teams have been compiled and the schedule has been created. If you have any further questions regarding this, please feel free to contact us and we'll try to help you out as much as well can.
4. My son or daughter has never played hockey before. Is this OK?
We accept participants with all skill levels. Thats why ball hockey is so great. You don't have to know how to skate and its a great way to learn the general game of hockey.
5. Do you offer divisions specifically for females?
If you or your daughter are under the age of 11 then you or your daughter will be placed on a co-ed team. We do offer divisions specifically for females 12 years of age and older. * Depending on registration numbers.
6. Are the games played outside?
No, all games are played indoors at one of London's hockey arenas after the ice has been removed.
7. My son/daughter wants to play goalie, do they need special equipment?
The LMBHA does have equipment available on a per game basis for children 11 and under. We ask that children 12 and older supply their own equipment. The reason for this is, obviously children start to grow at sometimes extreme rates and to keep costs down we cant afford to outfit every goalie in the league. We hope this is understood. If this is the case, a CSA approved helmet with cage, athletic support, chest protection, leg pads and pants along with a catch glove and blocker are recommended. A stick is also required.
8. Do you play with pucks?
No, the LMBHA and all leagues within the OBHA and CBHA use a special ball hockey ball.
9. I am interested in coaching my son or daughter. Is this possible?
Absolutely! The LMBHA is actively seeking volunteer coaches along with paid time keepers and referees. If you interested please feel free to contact us.
10. I am a business owner and I would like to sponsor in some form.
Great! The LMBHA is actively seeking sponsors. We have packages starting at $300 but for more information contact us.
11. Where are the games played?
All games are played at Farquharson Arena. Argyle Arena is a fall back rink and will be used if space is needed.
12. When does the season start?
The season will start late April, early May. This depends on when the City gets the ice out of the arenas and gives us the go ahead for use.
13. Does the London Minor Ball Hockey Association offer a Men's or Women's league?
The LMBHA does not run an adult league directly however there is an adult league run by Rick Price (London Ball Hockey Association). If you are 18 and older and are interested in playing, Rick can be reached at 519-777-4519 for more details.
We will be adding more to the FAQ as questions arise but feel free to contact us at anytime with any questions or concerns you may have.
